Technology/expertise for ENLIGHTEN project:
One core research field of Fraunhofer ILT is the laser material processing which includes the Additive Manufacturing technology of Laser Material Deposition (LMD), also known as laser based Directed Energy Deposition (lb-DED). With over 35 years of experience in the field of LMD Fraunhofer ILT is contributing to ENLIGHTEN with its knowledge and expertise in regards of LMD process development, – validation, -monitoring, simulation and systems engineering. In scope of ENLIGHTEN Fraunhofer ILT will utilize the experience to develop a resource efficient and productive LMD process for additively manufacturing a full-scale space engine nozzle extension. With ENLIGHTEN and successful provision of the additively manufactured nozzle extension Fraunhofer ILT is participating in the development of the next generation components for space application.
