Technology/expertise for ENLIGHTEN project:

Fraunhofer IGCV is the world’s leading research institution for multi-material laser powder bed fusion: An additive manufacturing process that enables arbitrary material allocation in complex parts. We developed a variety of multi-material powder deposition systems and provide solutions along the entire multi-material process chain – from simulation, re-design, and data preparation over process optimization and monitoring to part post-processing as well as powder reconditioning and re-use. In ENLIGHTEN we aim at developing a multi-material laser powder bed fusion process chain for a selected space component.

The research project ENLIGHTEN gives us the chance to really push our multi-material laser powder bed fusion process to the next level. Together with space engineers from Ariane Group and leading material scientists from KU Leuven we aim to solve major metallurgical and process-related challenges for a very demanding application. This could open a whole new set possibilities for multi-material additive manufacturing.
